14. Time plan and budgeting

At the beginning of my project i had set myself a budget, an estimate of what i would like to spend within my project. As well setting myself a budget, I decided a time plan would benefit myself within this project too. I believe being a organised makeup artist is very important within the industry to keep on time and to make sure everything runs smoothly.

After finalising my initial ideas it was time to write up a proposal in which I needed to come up with a time plan and budgeting plan for the project. I began to think of my budget, how much do i really need to spend? what exactly did i need to buy? etc. As I had a set idea that i was going to apply a body paint, i knew exactly that i needed to buy paint, but how much? and where from? needed to be confirmed and researched into. I also needed some hair as i wanted to create my own hair extensions for my models hair.

I decided the best option for me within this was to create a budget plan of what i would need to actually finish this look. Also I needed to think of any unexpected costs that could come up during the project in which i need to include within the budget plan.

Eventually i came up with an estimated £250 budget for the project, this would leave me with enough of a budget in case something did go wrong or i needed to but something that i did not think i would need at the start of the project (additional costs).

Here i have attached my budget plan with a list of items bought during the project.

In the end i managed to stay within my budget, coming under budget of £131.72. By using university photography studios and students as co partners for this project i was able to save money. I also didn’t spend money on items i didn’t necessarily need for example props and lighting. I found managing money was a very important step within developing myself as a makeup artist.  Being able to find the best products/ makeup for the shoot and being able to save/mange money at the same time a very professional manor to have. By managing my money it has made me more aware of how much product i am allowed to ‘waste’ as test pieces and their is always a cheaper alternative that might work out better in the long run.

For my whole project, i decided to keep a little diary of my day to day events with the project! As i have been having difficulties with my knees i thought this was the best option to keep myself on top of the project and set myself a target of everything to finish on time. Above I have included a few scanned pages of my diary, this will be handed in will all my practical workload.

I also had made a basic breakdown, a timetable that i could follow during the weeks of this project leading up to final hand in. This was a rough set up that was a great help and kept me on target and organised throughout the project. I mostly kept to this plan but unfortunately due to having frequent hospital appointments and bad knees some of these aspects did fall behind with my work. Eventually i had to change my shoot date, as i had fallen behind a lot and needed time to catch up as well as this i had extra time to finish my work. This helped a great deal and got me back on target.

I found juggling a lot of things at once very hard, between schedule classes, research, essay work along with practical work but i felt with a timetable i could manage and organise myself a lot easier.
